Hibiscus and grape combine with Silver to make an incredible cocktail.

-2 oz. Shmidt Spirits Silver
-1/2 oz. 1:1 Simple syrup
-1 1/2 oz. Double strength hibiscus tea
-1/2 oz. Lime juice
-Four red grapes

Brew hibiscus tea to double strength, and allow to cool in refrigerator.

Muddle grapes in cocktail shaker.

Add in Silver, simple syrup, chilled tea, and lime juice.

Shake until chilled.

Serve neat and garnish with grapes if desired. Enjoy!

Given that our Silver rye whiskey is finished in a chardonnay barrel, it should come as no surprise that a cocktail made with muddled grapes ends up tasting so delicious. The addition of tart hibiscus to the mix makes this a brightly colored but deceptively subtle cocktail, lacking the overwhelming sweetness one might expect. A refreshing and daring drink.

Now this cocktail was quite a surprise. Offered up to us by a fan of ours on Instagram, we decided to try it out on Instagram Live with each of our spirits to see which we liked best. The results are quite fun to watch, and while every spirit made a great cocktail, we decided that the Silver variant was the way to go.

-1/2 oz. Maraschino liqueur
-Cherry (to garnish)

In a mixing glass, combine all ingredients with ice and stir gently until chilled.

Strain into your glass of choice.

The Manhattan is a great jumping-off point for making new cocktails because it is so simple and so classic. It's bred a lot of regional variants, and today we present you with Brooklyn's own Red Hook. This is a fairly new cocktail, invented in 2003 by Vincenzo Errico at the Milk & Honey bar. We made it with our own little twist, and the result is an approachable, delicious cherry-hinted cocktail.

-3 oz. Ginger Beer
-1/2 oz. Lime juice
-Mint garnish

In a mixing glass, combine all ingredients with ice and stir gently.

Strain into a copper mug filled with ice.

Garnish with sprig of mint, and enjoy!

Served in it's distinctive copper mug, the Moscow Mule is a classic cocktailwith style to burn. We at Shmidt Spirits had a feeling that we could improve upon the recipe with our own spirits, and boy were we right! In fact, though the Silver version has an added smooth sweetness, we reckon people will like this cocktail equally as much if its made with Cobalt, which had a bit more of a boozy whiskey punch.

Rosy-fingered Dawn

Pretentious name, delicious flavor.

-2 oz. Silver
-1 oz. Orange juice
-1/2 oz. Simple syrup
-1/4 oz. Campari
-Peychaud's Bitters
-Blackstrap Bitters

Add all the ingredients into a shaker filled with ice.

Shake until chilled, then strain small, chilled glass.

No garnish needed.

The image of a rosy-fingered dawn comes from Homer, the phrase stemming from The Odyssey. It conjures the image of a pink and red sunrise, a breaking day, but also refers to the goddess Dawn. What does all that have to do with our cocktail? No one knows. Brian and Arthur made this drink on accident while inventing the Bog Grove Fairy, and once Brian threw out the pretentious-sounding name, it stuck. So enjoy! Raise your glass as the sun rises in the sky.

The key ingredient here is the blackstrap bitters. The molasses, cinnamon, and nutmeg flavor and aroma perfectly counter balance the sweetness of the other ingredients. It was only after adding them into this drink on our third try that we knew we’d stumbled upon something marvelous.

Add all the ingredients into a shaker filled with ice.

Shake until chilled, then strain small, chilled glass.

Garnish with a lemon wheel.

It just keeps getting hotter. So.we devised a nostalgic, delicious way to beat the heat with our Silver Lemonade. Adding our Silver rye with the tart and sweet refreshment of lemonade creates a cool drink that will see your way through the ever-warmer days of summer and clear into the crisp fall.

Our thought process here was to basically take the sweetness of a lemonade (which is lemon juice, water, and sugar) and soothe it a bit with the distinctive flavor of tonic syrup. This allows for the grain-forward flavor of our Silver, with its delicate Chardonnay finish, to bond harmoniously with everything else to make a smooth-sipping haven from the heat.

-2 oz. Silver
-1 oz. Orange juice
-1/2 oz. Simple syrup
- 1/2 oz. Cranberry juice
-3 dashes, Peychaud's bitters

Add all the ingredients into a shaker filled with ice.

Shake until chilled, then strain small, chilled glass.

Garnish as desired (or leave it plain, it’s strange enough as it is!).

With a name like that, how can it not be good?! The truth is that when Master Distillery Brian J. Roan created this delicious, fruit-forward beverage, he had no idea what to call it. Then he realized that oranges grew in groves, and cranberries come from bogs, and well, it may not make a lot of sense but you can see the logic. What matters, is that this playful, tasty cocktail should please everyone at the picnic, weird name or not.

The balance here is between the overwhelming citrus of the orange juice and the tartness of the cranberry. The simple syrup helps to settle things down a bit, the bitters add a touch of aromatic harmony, and the Silver… well the Silver does its part with a gentle kick and a delicious rye character.

-½ oz. syrup
-3 dashes orange bitters
-Seltzer
-Lemon twist garnish

In a high ball glass filled with ice, add Silver, simple syrup, and orange bitters.

Top with seltzer, and then gentle mix with cocktail spoon.

Garnish with twist of lemon.

We've loved out Viridian and Tonic since we came up with it. In looking for more recipes to help show off the distinct character of our Silver, we decided to see whether or not a simple swap would result in something equally as delicious. And it did! The versatility of Silver continues to astound us.

The most interesting thing about Silver is how much it adapts to each cocktail that you put it in to. It brings the character of a rye you might expect but in a way that isn’t burdensome or pushy. At the end of the day, it’s a harmonious accompaniment, not a brutish soloist.

-2 oz. Shmidt Spirits Silver
-3/4 oz. Tonic
-1/2 oz. Orange Juice

Add all the ingredients into a shaker filled with ice.

Shake until chilled, then strain into a glass of your choosing.

Garnish with a twist of citrus peel.

For his birthday, Master Distiller Brian J. Roan wanted to invent a new cocktail to feature his favorite of the three Shmidt Spirits—Silver. He decided to revisit a youthful favorite cocktail—the screwdriver—but added a classy kick of tonic syrup for a more mature flavor. So consider this cocktail his gift to you.

It’s a simple drink, but the flavor and the character are there. Silver can disappear into a fruit drink easily, while still granting a little bit of that rye character. What’s missing is the barrel and the color. The tonic adds a small touch of complexity, and wraps up this drink nicely.

The official drink of The Preakness, made with Shmidt Spirits liquor.

-1 oz. Shmidt Spirits Cobalt (instead of bourbon)
-1 oz. Shmidt Spirits Silver (instead of vodka)
-1 oz. Peach Schnapps
-2 oz. Orange Juice
-2 oz. Sour Mix
-Cherries for garnish

Add all the ingredients into a shaker filled with ice.

Shake until chilled, then strain into a tall glass filled with ice.

Garnish with cherries (or orange wedge (or both!)).

The Preakness is this Saturday! If you're not from Maryland, you might not know how much of a big deal that is for us here at Shmidt Spirits. You also might not know that every jewel in the Triple Crown has a dedicated cocktail. We decided to see what we could do with the Black-eyed Susan, the signature cocktail of the Preakness, with some Shmidt Spirits liquor. Unsurprisingly, our spirits only make it more delicious!

With the subtly flavoring of our Cobalt and Silver, the ingredients in this drink meld together with sweet, harmonious perfection. The peach and orange are accented by the run sweetness and subtle vanilla of the Cobalt, with the buttery crisp silver underlying it all for an extra kick. Make one and raise a glass to your mount of choice today.

-1 oz. Shmidt Spirits Cobalt
-1 oz. Shmidt Spirits Viridian
-1 oz. Simple syrup
-1/2 oz. Grand Marnier
-1 oz. Lime juice
-1 oz. Lemon juice
-Mexican coke

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, and add all ingredients except for the Mexican coke.

Shake until chilled, then strain into a Collins glass filled with ice.

Top with Mexican Coke.

Garnish with lemon or lime wedges or wheels.

Drawing inspiration from the classic Long Island Iced Tea, the Shmidt Faced is our attempt to create a drink that contained every one of our spirits. Ice-cold and packing a wallop, this is the drink to get you ready for a day at the beach or relax you after a long day of yard work.

It may seem excessive, perhaps even a little ill-advised, but the combination of all of our spirits with the added sweetness and tartness of the other ingredients actually creates a surprisingly balanced and smooth drink. We were just as surprised as you will be!

-1 1/2 oz. Shmidt Spirits Silver
-1 oz. Cointreau
-1/2 oz. Lime juice
-1/4 oz. Simple syrup
-1/4 oz. Cranberry juice
-Lime wheel (garnish)

Fill cocktail shaker with ice.

Add all ingredients. Shake until chilled.

Strain into stemmed cocktail glass (usually a martini, in our case we used a coupe).

Garnish with lime wheel.

Nothing says 'sophisticated urban night on the town' quite like the cosmo. We decided that our Silver whiskey would be the perfect substitute liquor for this bright cocktail, and adjusted the recipe slightly to help bring that flavor to the fore.

The fun of Silver is that it is a whiskey that maintains its character but can still act as a clear liquor, like a tequila or vodka. It imparts the grain-base you would expect from a whiskey without the overpowering color or burn. you might anticipate. The Silver Cosmo proves this, and in turn becomes a more distinctive, more flavorful version of the drink you love.

The Silver Slice

Our signature Silver cocktail, the Silver Slice, garnished with a lemon and lime wheel.

- 2 oz White Whiskey
- 1/2 oz Fresh Lime Juice
- 1/2 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
- 1/2 oz Simple Syrup
- 1/2 oz Egg White (Optional)

Shake all ingredients over ice.

Strain into chilled coupe glass.

Garnish with lemon or lime wheel.

The Silver Slice was invented in the tasting room of Shmidt Spirits to answer one of the biggest questions we would receive from people who sampled our curious, unique Silver spirit, a young whiskey finished in a chardonnay barrel: What is this good in?

Silver could take the place of tequila or vodka easily, but we wanted to create a drink that was true to its refreshing spirit without coasting off the backs of other liquors. So we took a classic whiskey sour as our jumping-off point and soon enough Master Distiller Brian J. Roan had created the Silver Slice, a chilled cocktail that his own father would describe as tasking like Italian ice from his hometown of Queens, New York. With its uniform proportions of common ingredients and its delectable sweetness, the Silver Slice is a primed for parties, after-dinner drinks, or a warm day in the sun.
